CVS Deal & Diaper Stockpiling

7/23/2013

I've been keeping my eyes out for diaper deals, as I stockpile diapers for cheap before our baby comes. CVS has a great diaper deal this week that I scored big on.

Here's how it worked for me. I had $5 in Extra Care Bucks (also known as ECBs, which are like a gift card to use for purchases at CVS) saved from a previous diaper deal. I also received an email from CVS last weekend with another $3 ECBs via a printable coupon.

When I walk into CVS, I always head to the coupon printing machine, which often spits out more money saving coupons or ECBs. On this visit, it printed a $5 off $25 purchase coupon, which fit perfectly with what I had planned to do anyway. It also printed a 79 cents off CVS brand paper towels, which are on sale for 79 cents this week (making them free after using the coupon).

I bought 2 packages of Huggies diapers at $9.99 each, the paper towels, and 2 packages of generic baby wipes that would help get my total to $25 or more.

Then I used the $5 off $25 purchase coupon.
Then my $5 ECBs and $3 ECB coupon.
Then I had 2 coupons for $3 off Huggies products = $6 off.
And the 79 cents off coupon for the paper towels.

My total out-of-pocket for all 5 items was $6.61.

AND the Huggies purchases generated $5 in Extra Care Bucks to use next time at CVS, which makes it kind of like spending $1.61 to get all of those items!

Even if you don't have a child in diapers, you could consider doing some of the "diaper deals" at CVS to give brand-name diapers to a new mom as a baby or shower gift. At prices this low, you could gift her with her multiple packages of diapers which are SO VERY practical!

It feels exhilarating to save money!

Diaper Stockpiling

6/25/2013

Now that we're past the riskiest time of pregnancy as far as miscarriages go, it seems that we're having a baby in December! That means that it's time to start thinking and planning ahead. One of the things I can do now to prepare for baby is stock up on diapers when they are on sale.

CVS has a good deal on diapers this week. Buy $30 worth of baby products, then receive $12 in Extra Care Bucks (like a CVS gift card to be used for future purchases). Items included in this deal: Huggies and Pampers diapers are both $9.49, Huggies wipes are $3.00, Desitin diaper cream, Johnson's baby oil, as well as numerous other baby products included.

There are numerous coupons out there for Huggies and Pampers diapers right now that can be paired with this sale. I also had $4 Extra Care Bucks from a previous purchase that I used. I also received a promotional coupon from CVS for $4 off a $20 purchase, which I also used. In the end, I spent $17 out of pocket and got the $12 Extra Care Bucks to be used in the future. That makes it almost like spending just $5 to get 3 packs of diapers and a package of wipes. Good deal!

Amazon.com also has occasional deals on diapers, so I've been watching those and using Amazon gift cards that I've earned through Swagbucks to get those for cheap or free too.

A few random points on diapering:

*I buy size 2 diapers whenever possible. My babies tend to be large, almost beyond the size 1 diapers at birth. Babies generally are in the size 2 diapers for most of the first year, so that is the size I stock up on.

*Huggies are my preferred brand, with Pampers as a second. I've never had much success with Luvs.

*I will combine both disposable diapers and cloth diapering with the new baby. I tried cloth diapering with my 5-year-old son back in the day and still have most of the supplies. I found cloth diapering to be a way to save major money, so I plan to go that route again.

CVS Freebies

8/22/2012

It's been a long time since I've shared any CVS freebies or deals. The reason? Because I haven't taken advantage of any CVS freebies or deals lately. Other things have taken priority and couponing has been pushed to the back burner.

And I'm ok with that. I know there are seasons of life when priorities shift and less important things are put on hold. Couponing is definitely not a top priority and can easily be set aside.

However, this week I made a trip to CVS and walked away with 6 items for 40 cents total. I had coupons that when paired with this week's sales made for free or almost free items.

Here's what I got: 4 cans of Bumblebee tuna,
1 box of Pop Tarts
(on clearance, because of the Olympics packaging),
1 bottle of Herbal Essence conditioner.

Total before coupons = $8.63
Total after coupons = $0.40
I had a coupon for a free Herbal Essence product, a $2 off CVS coupon good for any product, 2 coupons for $1 off 2 Bumblebee products. The tuna was on sale for $1 per can, so after coupons it was 50 cents per can. I also had $1 in Extra Care Bucks (like a gift card to use only at CVS). After all of that, my total was 40 cents out of pocket. That's less than 7 cents each for those 6 products.

Thank you, CVS!

Black Friday Deals

11/28/2011

I don't "do" Black Friday. I don't wait in lines or go shopping at midnight.

But I do shop at CVS and their "Black Friday" deals always start on Thanksgiving Day. I usually head out early on Thursday morning to see what freebies I can snag.

Here's what I was able to get this year: 4 packages of M&Ms, 2 King Size Hershey bars, a bottle of LA Looks hair gel, a box of Cool Touch Kleenex, a package of Carmex, a package of Breathe Right strips, a 90-count package of Dental Flossers, a 4-pack of batteries, a Balance bar, a package of Sheets energy strips, a package of Finish Quantum dishwasher tablets, a box of toothpaste, a box of Fiber One brownies, a 2-pack of toothbrushes, a pack of Advil PM, a pack of regular Advil, a pack of Listerine breath strips, a bottle of Excedrin, a box of Cepacol throat lozenges, a package of Benefiber drink mix, and some lip gloss. All of that is in the picture.

One item NOT in the picture is a $19.99 Christmas gift. (because my daughter often looks at my blog and I don't want to ruin her surprise)

How much did I pay for all of those items and the gift?

Go ahead and guess.

$5

It's true. For $5 out-of-pocket, I got the $20 Christmas gift and all of the items in the picture. How? I paired coupons with their sales and their rewards bucks (called ECBs - Extra Care Bucks - like a CVS gift card to use on future purchases).

I consider my freebies to be a few more reasons why I continue to shop at CVS.

Deals Around Town

11/7/2011

Here are a few deals I've found lately.

Each item in this picture was under $1 thanks to sale prices and coupons at my local Kroger. The toothbrushes were 25 cents each. The gum was 19 cents per package. The cans of pineapple were around 70 cents each. The small cans of baked beans were around 30 cents each.

These items were all free at Kroger, thanks to coupons and sales. Savings of about $12.

And these items were free at CVS last week, thanks to coupons and sale prices and Extra Care Bucks (like a gift card to use only at CVS). Savings of about $6.

I like getting things for free. A few dollars saved on these items means those dollars can go elsewhere - to savings, or to buy more groceries to give to a food pantry, etc.

Here's to stretching those hard-earned dollars!

Deals Around Town

10/4/2011

A few deals I've gotten lately.

First, a mailbox freebie - a Swiffer duster and other Swiffer coupons.
Excellent free item!

Last week CVS had a deal on Softsoap. I was able to get 2 bottles of foaming hand soap for less than $2 and earn back $4 in Extra Care Bucks (like a gift card to use at CVS in the future). I liked the deal but I was also excited because I'd recently read here about making your own foaming hand soap and I lacked the special dispenser. So now I've got soap to last a while and a dispenser to make my own soap when these are empty.

And I just bought these 3 items for a total of 50 cents at CVS yesterday, thanks to coupons and deals. I also got back $1 Extra Care Buck to spend at CVS next time. I live very close to numerous CVS stores, so it's not out of my way to shop there and it's easy to take advantage of great deals when they come.

I like deals! :-)

Mailbox Monday

8/22/2011

Here are a few of the freebies I received in the mail recently.

All of this for free: a Huggies onesie, 1 high-value Huggies coupon, 2 samples of Huggies diapers, 2 samples of an off-brand diaper, a free Scholastic book for my daughter (part of a summer reading program deal), and a free copy of the book "No Longer a Slumdog" (still available here). All free. All received in the mail. Can't beat it!

A sample of Motts for Tots apple juice, along with 3 coupons.

Not a mailbox freebie, but an exciting deal:
Last week at CVS I was able to get a pack of gum, 2 bottles of body wash and 2 candy bars for less than 25 cents total! I didn't get a picture of that deal, but it sure felt good to use spare change to pick up 5 items!

Three cheers for deals!

Deals Around Town

8/2/2011

After taking some time off of deal hunting, here are some deals I found last week around town.

These "back to school" items were super cheap at CVS last week, due to sales and Extra Care Bucks that I had accumulated. For 6 rolls of tape and an 8-pack of pens, I paid a few cents for tax but earned back $2 in Extra Care Bucks to spend on a future purchase at CVS.

Dawn dish soap is on sale at Kroger for $1, which ended up being free after using a 50cent coupon that was doubled to $1. I had 3 such coupons, so 3 free bottles of Dawn. It has been years since I've paid for dish soap, thanks to repeated deals like this on Dawn. I had a coupon for a free bottle of Country Bob's steak sauce, so that was completely free also.

These items were not free but were less than $1 each, thanks to coupons. Pull-up flushable wipes were 18 cents. Crest was 25 cents per tube. Bengay ointment was 98 cents after a $5off coupon. A 12-pack of disposable razors was also 98 cents.

The best deal of the week, though, were our oodles of free blueberries! My old college roommate lives less than an hour away. Each year she graciously invites anyone to harvest blueberries on a few acres in her backyard. We always take her up on the offer, as my family loves blueberries. Here are 13 quart bags of blueberries that we will freeze and use throughout the year for snacks and baking. Thank you, Leah!

Here's to saving money on these "small" things so we can spend on what is truly important in our lives!

Super Savings Saturday

6/4/2011

Here are a few of the deals I picked up this week.

Tiny Prints was offering free Father's Day cards last weekend. I ordered a few and they arrived this week. What a great deal - personalized text and photos, pre-printed envelope - at no cost to me at all, not even for shipping!

At CVS this week, I picked up two candy bars for nothing. They were 2 for $1 and I had $1 in Extra Care Bucks to use so they were completely free and generated another $1 in Extra Care Bucks to use on my next CVS purchase. I also used a rain check for GUM flossers since they were finally back in stock after a sale back in April. The sale was $2 per package and it generated $2 in Extra Care Bucks, making it basically free. I also had coupons to get my out-of-pocket price even lower, so these were a great deal for me.

At Walmart, I picked up these items for free: 2 packages of Wilkerson razors, 1 Breakstone's 100 calorie cottage cheese snack item, and 2 packages of Kotex pads. All were completely free after coupons. Any of these items we won't use will be donated to a homeless shelter.

Also at Walmart, I picked up 3 packages of Pull Up flushable wipes for 24 cents each, after coupons.

I shop at Walmart only when I have coupons that will result in free items, which puts me there once every 4 weeks.

Did you find any great deals this week? They are out there, waiting to be found!

Super Savings Saturday

5/7/2011

Here are 2 of the super deals I got this week.

Kroger has a sale on pasta - making it 49 cents each. I had coupons for $1 off any 2 pastas, making it completely free (and even a 2 cent money-maker). I bought 17 boxes of pasta for absolutely NOTHING! Most of this will be donated to a food pantry, as it is way more pasta than we will use in the near future.

Colgate toothpaste was on sale at CVS this week for $2.77 each and would generate $2.77 in Extra Care Bucks (ECBs - like a gift card to use on a future purchase at CVS). I already had some ECBs, so I used those to buy the Colgate for NOTHING out-of-pocket and still have more ECBs to spend next time at CVS.

I already posted about the WalMart freebies that I picked up earlier this week.

I'd love to hear about any deals you found this week!

It's a great week for deals around town, in preparation for Easter!

At CVS this week, I picked up everything shown in this picture for around $1 and these purchases generated $5 in Extra Care Bucks (like a CVS gift card to use on future purchases). That included: 2 gallons of skim milk, 3 cans of black olives (our family LOVES black olives, though they are only for an occasional treat), 1 bag of green Easter grass and 1 Paas egg-coloring kit.

At WalMart this week, I found dozens of deals and picked up multiple free items.

In this picture is everything that I picked up for free or better-than-free (meaning that I used a coupon that was for more than the purchase price but they took off the full amount of the coupon). Free Nivea body wash for men, free Nivea body was for women, 4 free Reach dental floss, 2 free Reach flossers, 1 free Degree trial-sized deoderent, 2 free packs of gum, 1 free pack of M&Ms, 1 free tube of Poligrip (not for our household use!), 1 free Purex 3-in-1 laundry package, 1 free coffee creamer and 5 free Similac ready-to-feed formula containers (will be donated to homeless shelter). All of it was completely free. Much of it was better than free. The Similac formula, for example, cost $3.84. I had a coupon for $5 off any Similac product. WalMart puts those coupons through for $5, so it's a bit like WalMart is paying me $1.16 to take that item out of their store! Amazing, I know! And totally legit! That $1.16 is called overage and you can use it to help you buy other items that do cost money. I used the overage to help me buy some fresh fruits and veggies and a few other grocery items that I didn't have coupons for.

All of the items in this picture were also from WalMart and cost less than $1 each after coupons. Colgate toothpaste, Taco Bell taco sauce, French's dijon mustard, McCormick black pepper, Ken's ranch dressing, Dole pineapple, 3 bags of Steamfresh veggies, 2 bags of shredded cheese, 2 bags of Kraft homestyle mac and cheese, 1 Viola skillet entree. Each item was anywhere from 18 cents to $1 after coupons - a great price for any of these brand-name products!

I love to watch my subtotal come down and down and down as the coupons are swiped. My total at WalMart went from $103 down to $40.20 (that included items not in these photos). It takes some advance planning to get such a deal, but it definitely pays off in the end!

Those are the best deals I found this week. My secret is to let others do most of the work for me. I check Money Saving Mom and a few other similar sites that list the store deals and match up the coupons for me. All I do is find those coupons (whether online or from the Sunday newspaper inserts) and take them to the store to make the purchases.

Another tip is that WalMart will price match any other current store ad. I knew that Walgreens had eggs on sale this week for $1.29 a dozen. WalMart's price was higher, so I asked them to price match and they did. I also knew that grapes were on sale at my local Kroger for 99 cents a pound, at least 50 cents less per pound that WalMart's price. So I asked them to price match Kroger and they did. That saved me a few dollars as well... just by knowing the deals at other stores and asking them to price match. And it saved me a trip to Walgreens for eggs and Kroger for grapes - got it all in one place at the lowest price.

Found any deals lately? I'd love to hear about them!

Deals Around Town

4/16/2011

I made a quick trip to CVS this week. I picked up everything in this picture for 74 cents! I consider that to be a successful shopping trip!

*I Box of Contact Solution
*2 CVS Hand Sanitzer
*6 Mentos Gum
*1 Russell Stover Easter Egg
*1 Hershey Candy Bar

I had $10 in Extra Care Bucks (ECBs - like a gift card that can be used for future CVS purchases) when I entered the store. I also had a rain check for an item that was on sale last week but was sold out. I also had some free item coupons that I'd printed at home from CVS.com last week when they were being super generous.

When I entered CVS, I went straight to the coupon printing machine. This is always my first stop in the store. Why? Because sometimes you can score a coupon like I did on this visit - $4 off a purchase of $20.

I made sure I bought just $20 worth of products (hence, the gum which was my filler item). Then I used the $4 off coupon. Then I handed over the other coupons I had which brought my total down to about $11. Then I gave them the $10 Extra Care Bucks and I only had to pay 74 cents! I also walked out of the store with $10 in Extra Care Bucks for a future purchase.

Can you see why I love CVS?!

More Deals Around Town

4/6/2011

I made a trip to CVS yesterday and took home a bag full of deals!

For everything in the picture, I paid around $21 and got back $10 in Extra Care Bucks (ECBs - like a gift card to use on future purchases at CVS).

1 big box of diapers (this alone usually costs around $20)
1 Oral-B rechargeable toothbrush (I had a rain check from last year when this was deeply discounted and generated ECBs in return; this is usually priced around $35)
6 Dawn dish soaps (99 cents this week and I had coupons making it even less)
1 Crest mouth wash
2 Oral-B manual toothbrushes
1 Aussie shampoo
1 Herbal Essence hair gel
2 candy bars that failed to make it into the picture

How did I do it?
*Sales - check out the sales ad, even a few days in advance by signing up at www.cvs.com
*Coupons - check out sites like www.moneysavingmom.com for a list of the current week's sales and where to find coupons to make those sale prices even lower
*Using ECBs I'd already earned from a previous purchase to pay for these purchases, which generated new ECBs. This is called rolling and I try to keep my ECBs rolling as much as possible, to keep my actual out-of-pocket costs very low.
*CVS released a coupon this week for $5 off a $40 purchase, if you "like" them on Facebook. This coupon could be used in conjunction with others to make the grand total even less.

I have been taking a break from "the drug store game" and focusing more on other things. But the deals this week and the extra coupons I had available compelled me to make the trip. I'm glad I did. It feels good to get a great deal!

Deals

Just a quick post about deals I've found lately.

Here's what I picked up at CVS last weekend for around $5 - package of Huggies, Crest toothpaste, Kotex pads, small Bayer aspirin, 2 Pantene shampoos, 2 Right Guard deodorants. 8 items. The diapers alone usually cost $8-10 so this was a great deal!

I've gotten about 20 free kitchen sponge/scrubbers at Walmart in the last 3 weeks, thanks to a coupon that Scotch put out for $1 off any Scotch product (kitchen sponges are 84 cents at WalMart so they are beyond free with the coupon).

Be encouraged. There are deals out there and ways to save money on things you buy and use on a regular basis. Check out www.moneysavingmom.com for other store deals, coupons and freebies.

CVS Deals and more

This was a good week for deals at CVS. Here's what I received for basically nothing out-of-pocket and earned ECBs (like a CVS gift card to use on future purchases) too:

A glucose monitor (which we'll donate to a homeless shelter), a pack of Pampers, a pack of Huggies, Crest mouthwash, Colgate toothpaste, Huggies wipes, and an Airwick motion sensor.

Beyond the CVS deals, I was able to get the following items free or for just pennies at WalMart this weekend:

Kashi cereal (had coupon for completely free), Frank's Red Hot sauce (Sunday paper insert coupons), McCormicks spices (printable coupons), Kotex pads (printable coupons), Rimmel make-up coupon (coupon from All You magazine to get the make up completely free), and Crunch bars (Buy-1-Get-1-Free Sunday paper coupon).

Tuesday: CVS Deals

It's been a while since I've blogged about it, but I have snagged some great deals at CVS in recent weeks.

This picture shows my purchases from CVS's Black Friday Sale (which I only do because CVS starts their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day, so I can get the good deals at 8:00 am Thursday without having to get up early and fight any crowds on Friday). All of the above items cost me a total of around $5.00 and I walked away with $14 in Extra Care Bucks (like a gift card to use at CVS in the future). It's almost like being paid to shop there and take these items from them! 4 candy bars, 2 razors, 2 shampoos, 2 hair gels, 1 body wash, 1 ipod earphones, 2 lotions, 3 toothpastes, 2 deodorants... yes, $5!

One thing I love about CVS is their Rain Check policy. If any regularly-carried item is sold out, you can get a rain check THAT NEVER EXPIRES! Recently I used a rain check from many months ago that I coupled with coupons to get 12 Glade candles for free!

This week CVS has just a couple of good deals. You can check them out here. I was able to pick up Christmas tissue paper, bows and gift tags for around $1.00 out-of-pocket.

If you are brand new to shopping at CVS and are wondering how to save major money shopping there, go here for a quick tutorial.

But whether you shop at CVS or not, be encouraged! There are deals out there and legitimate ways to save money on everyday items you already use! How motivated are you to find those deals?!

CVS Deals

Today's CVS Deal:

Today I picked up everything in this picture - 5 packages diapers, 1 large package of wipes and 1 Herbal Essence shampoo - for $20 out of pocket. I also earned back $10 in Extra Care Bucks (ECBs - like a CVS gift card that can be used on future purchases), so it was kind of like spending only $10 for all of this!

[If you know anything about the price of diapers, you know that this is a GREAT deal considering you can easily spend $10 per package of diapers!]

How did I do this deal? I used coupons for $2 off per package of Huggies and $1 off coupons for "any Huggies product" (ie. the wipes). I had a free coupon from Herbal Essense for the shampoo. CVS has a coupon out for "$5 off your next $30 purchase" that I also had to save another $5. And CVS's deal this week is that if you spend $20 on Huggies products, you earn back $5 in ECBs.
