Pure Joy

11/1/2019

I took this picture a few weeks ago, of my three littlest kids enjoying a jumping pad. They loved this so much!
I can't help but smile at the pure joy on my daughter's face.
Such delight.
Such elation.

When was the last time I experienced such delight?
Do I even allow life to move me any more? I sense that I don't, at least not very much. This is an area of growth for me, to be more aware of emotions and more secure in expressing emotions.

So I make this picture my computer desktop background to remind me of that joy can be found in the journey of life.

Fall Fun

10/11/2019

My oldest girl is now 16 and has her first job. She's working at a nearby pumpkin patch/corn maze/fall fun attraction. She works in the donut shop, dishing out the donuts. She loves it! This shows her in the shed area, pulling donuts out of the warmer.

One of the perks of this job is that she and the rest of our family (that's 7 people total) can enjoy the attractions for free! That's a huge benefit!

So once or twice this fall the rest of the family has enjoyed the jumping pillow, sand box and corn box while big sister is working away. There is also a petting farm, a hay ride, corn mazes, huge lego bricks to build with and a handful of other activities I'm forgetting.

Hooray for free fall fun!

Fall Fun Field Trip

9/27/2018

We enjoyed some fall fun last week at a local farm / pumpkin patch / corn maze.

This farm is so fun for the kids. There's a petting farm with goats, chickens, dogs, ponies.

There are go-karts for adults and smaller ones for the little kids. This one isn't even a go-kart but a toy combine. Perfect for a toddler!

There are a few of these little playhouses spread around the farm. So cute!

This year they added a sunflower field.
All sunflowers. So beautiful.

My little ones like the corn box the best.
Huge play area full of dried corn, similar to a large sand box (or a sandy beach). Very dusty, but very fun for them!

There is a cow train. Here are a few of my kids ready for the short train ride.

They also offer hay rides. Here these two were sitting, waiting for the ride to begin.

Everywhere you go there are fun things for the kids to do here. In this picture my son is enjoying a water pump game, sending rubber duckies down the tubes to the other side where his sister was waiting to send them back to him. There is a big slide and also a trampoline-type jumping pillows for dozens of people to jump on at the same time.

Fall fun at its best!

Fall Festival

10/30/2017

We recently attended a Fall Festival. My youngest kids dressed up and were, of course, adorable.

Little 2-year-old boy was a giraffe. Such a cute costume.

My almost 4-year-old girl was a princess. She had a blast with her best friend Addie, who was a cat.

My baby boy was in his Tigger costume, which included a tail. Too cute.

Dress up fun for all!

Fall

11/10/2016

This little man is enjoying fall.

He points to the window to go outside.
He will sit in the grass and leaves, scooting himself around and squealing with delight.

We've had some beautiful weather the last few weeks, extending summer all through the month of October and into November!

Happy fall!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

A day to be thankful for the little things... like purple leaves.

Until the last few years, I have always hated fall and the month of October (if you're curious, you can read more here). God has "redeemed" them for me now, though. I am learning to not just endure them but to cherish them for their own special beauty.

I love the color purple. So I thank God this week for purple leaves. It's true! I have found hundreds of purple leaves this week while walking in my neighborhood. A red maple tree's leaves are just turning red. The back side of the leaves a beautiful shade of light purple.

I take these purple leaf sightings to be messengers from God. "I created fall. Fall has its own beauty, just as each season does. Just look deeper and you'll find it."

Found it, God! Thank you for purple leaves!

Fall Round-Up

10/8/2012

Some good friends invited us to a Fall Round Up over the weekend. This was an event hosted by their church and it was a very fun idea!

The invitation read:
Round up your neighbors and your kin
and head out for some down home fun!
There'll be:
grub eatin'
music playin'
square dancin'
toe tappin'
wagon ridin'
horseshoe pitchin'
corn holin'
quick-draw shootin'
youngins laughin'
and cider sippin'

Of course, the kids enjoyed all there was to see and do.

I was pleasantly surprised to run into a few folks from my past at this event. There was a couple there who had allowed me to live in their home for 3 months when I first moved to South Bend from Wisconsin, back in 1997. There was also a former camp director there, whom I knew from my days at Camp Ray Bird in the late 1990s.

I'm thankful for good old fall fun!
