Homeschool Co-op Semester Ends

Another homeschool co-op semester has come to an end. Our co-op meets for 12 weeks in the fall and then takes a break until spring when we'll meet for 12 weeks again.

As a big group we memorized Philippians 4:4-9 this semester: "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again, rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received from me or heard from me or seen in me, put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you!"




My oldest daughter had these classes this semester: Show Choir, Introduction to Economics, Study Hall and Beauty School. Above is her Show Choir class performing "Hot Chocolate." They also did a song called "Ugly Christmas Sweater." 



My oldest son signed up for: Gym, Games, Science in the Bible, and Public Speaking. He always loves Gym. His games class involved learning some new games and even making a few games, including this Foosball game. In Public Speaking class, he learned how appropriate behavior for public places like restaurants, stores and libraries.




My littler girl was in Preschool with her best friend Addie. She absolutely loved co-op this year. She loved her teachers and seeing Addie on a weekly basis. The Preschool class wraps up the semester with a Pajama Party and a movie. So much fun this semester! My girl and Addie will both be moving up to Kindergarten classes in the spring semester, so they received a diploma as a Preschool Graduate at the final program. 






My two littlest boys were in the Nursery. I was in there with them for 2 of the 4 hours this semester. My 3-year-old did great in there, not caring whether I was there or not. He has come a long way over the last year! 


My 1-year-old also did very well. He has always been a little more independent and less attached, so he too didn't mind whether I was present or not with him the nursery. 


The schedule in the nursery is: 
1st hour -  free play and storytime
2nd hour - Cheerio snacks 
3rd hour - free play and a craft 
(as well as a change of all diapers) 
4th hour - Goldfish snacks and clean up 




I taught a Senior High Speech class this semester. I've taught this material before, a few years ago. I had 5 students who presented object, demonstration, inspirational, persuasive, impromptu and historical-character speeches throughout the semester. In this picture, student Ellie is handling a cockroach, which fellow student Nolyn brought in for his speech on cockroaches as pets. 

We're thankful once again for our co-op -- for the friends we've made, for all that we've learned together, for the focus on glorifying God and learning Scripture together, for the freedom to gather together and learn together.

Baby Boy at 15 Months

This little guy is over 15 months old now! He's a lot of fun, getting around by fast crawling or slow toddling. He sleeps so well - 12 hours at night, plus two daytime naps. 


He's full of smiles and typical toddler curiosity. He climbs into baskets and onto all chairs or couches now.


He got up to the kitchen table, found a bowl of yogurt and helped himself. He's at the stage of getting into plenty of mischief in just a minute or two of having my back turned.


He's got long hair, with loose curls. It's especially curly when wet after a bath. I suspect we'll cut it soon. I'll miss those curls. His hair has more curl and wave than any of my other kids have had.


My oldest daughter has fun styling his hair. Oh, the joys of having an older sister to give you your first ponytail and then capture it forever with a photo. :-)

John and Karen Wedding

My husband's sister Karen got married recently. 
Here she is with her husband John, just following the ceremony.


The wedding was on a dinner boat. Very unique. The boat took off at 3pm and returned to dock at 7pm. If you weren't there to board by 3pm, you literally and figuratively missed the boat.

Healthworks Field Trip

This week we enjoyed a field trip to a local kids museum called Healthworks. Healthworks has been around for at least a decade. We've visited a few other times over the years. However, this was their last week before they closed their doors, so we squeezed in one more visit. 



There is a large dental chair and dress-up clothes for pretending to be a dentist. 


There are some cool chairs that will not tip over, no matter how you spin them. These provided quite a bit of fun during our visit. 



There are other dress-up outfits too, which a few of my kids tried on. Two firefighters and a construction worker. 



There's a climbing wall for the kids. 


There were hula hoops and some other toddler activities, so even my youngest one was able to get in on the fun. 

We're thankful for a local kids museum and are sad to see it closing. We'll miss you, Healthworks!

Fall Fun Field Trip

We enjoyed some fall fun last week at a local farm / pumpkin patch / corn maze.



This farm is so fun for the kids. There's a petting farm with goats, chickens, dogs, ponies. 


There are go-karts for adults and smaller ones for the little kids. This one isn't even a go-kart but a toy combine. Perfect for a toddler!



There are a few of these little playhouses spread around the farm. So cute!


This year they added a sunflower field. 
All sunflowers. So beautiful. 





My little ones like the corn box the best. 
Huge play area full of dried corn, similar to a large sand box (or a sandy beach). Very dusty, but very fun for them!


There is a cow train. Here are a few of my kids ready for the short train ride.


They also offer hay rides. Here these two were sitting, waiting for the ride to begin. 


Everywhere you go there are fun things for the kids to do here. In this picture my son is enjoying a water pump game, sending rubber duckies down the tubes to the other side where his sister was waiting to send them back to him. There is a big slide and also a trampoline-type jumping pillows for dozens of people to jump on at the same time.

Fire Station Field Trip

Our family recent enjoyed a field trip to a local fire station.

This little one is turning 3!


This boy has a heart for worship. He is constantly singing, dancing and strumming his toy guitars. His heart is always filled with music. What a gift!

Garden

I love that our garden is still producing a harvest. 
Still green beans to enjoy for supper many nights each week. And a handful of tomatoes to toss in a salad too. 

Gardens go on producing long after the bulk of the work work of planting, weeding, tending is done. I love that!

Butterfly

My children were recently fascinated with a butterfly in our yard. It needed "an ambulance," my 4-year-old declared. It wouldn't fly and was barely moving.


Like a butterfly veterinarian, my 15-year-old daughter mixed up some sugar water to feed it and used a toothpick to help unfurl its curled up tongue. Then they placed it near our "butterfly bush" on the yard, which attracts lots of butterfly friends.


This is science at its best!
