Spring Flowers

4/24/2017

I took a few pictures of our spring flowers in full bloom over the weekend.

Such a mood-lifter and spirit-booster to see all these signs of new life and splendor popping up all over the place!

For everything there is a season... a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest.

Thank you, God, for seasons!

Spring!

What a delight to see our spring flowers in bloom around the yard!

We have lots of yellow daffodils that have been blooming for nearly 2 weeks already.

We also have red and purple tulips out. So gorgeous.

My favorites, though, are these hyacinths. Such a sweet smelling flower - I love to have some inside in a vase. We have some white, pink, ivory, and blue hyacinths. Love seeing them out my kitchen window this time of year.

After such a long winter, these flowers are more welcome than ever as a hopeful sign of what is to come!

Happy Spring

It's spring, according to the calendar. Nevermind the fact that we had snow and hail today!

Here are a few pictures I took earlier this week, with signs of spring popping up all around.

My son showing off a juicy worm he found!

Tulips coming up, not blooming yet, but getting close.

Daffodils and hyacinths in the backyard.

The garlic in our garden is already shooting a few inches out of the ground.

My daughter took this picture of a bird in a puddle in the backyard. It was entertaining to watch him bathe!

Welcome, Spring!

Spring!

4/8/2013

After what seemed like a very long winter, spring has finally sprung in our part of Indiana!

Spring means windy days that are perfect for flying kites.

Spring means beautiful flowers. My sister-in-law gave me these and I have very much enjoyed them. And I saw my first daffodil bloom of the year today in my backyard.

Spring means it's time to grow things. We've begun planting some of our garden items - the ones that need to start indoors before being planted outside. But in this picture you see twirly-birds in numerous stages of sprouting. My daughter found all of these on her own and it delights my heart. Hands-on science taking place in the backyard

We're so very excited for spring!

Has spring sprung where you're at yet?
If not, hang in there - it's coming!

Yes, a garden!

At our new place, we have not yet had a garden. The yard is actually quite a mess and needs a lot of clean up - including roots and stumps to be removed, as well as major weeds - not to mention the clay soil that makes it hard to dig in.

That was the garden at our previous house. Oh, how we hated leaving it (and are saddened to see that the new owners are letting the weeds take over the garden boxes). But here we are - would love a garden, but...

Last weekend we bit the bullet and made some space. Both my hubby and I worked for many hours weeding, digging up plants and small stumps, turning sod. Our city has compost free for the taking (if you load it yourself) so we now have some compost mixed in with the soil.

Next up, deciding what to plant and getting the seeds in the ground. Likely candidates: cucumbers, peppers, corn, beans

I love gardening for 2 main reasons: it can save money on fresh veggies (and I love sharing from the bounty of the garden with others) but it's also such a great educational opportunity with kids.

The law of sowing and reaping, the necessity of nutrients, the process of how food goes from the farm to the market, the requirement of work in order to get the desired food in the end, the miracle of life bursting forth from a tiny seed... all this and more coming from discussions taking place in the garden!

Got to love spring and planting time!
