Happy Birthday, Babe!

7/16/2018

Happy 43rd birthday to my husband!

I served him up a breakfast sandwich with a candle in it, with a side of bacon. Happy birthday!

This year, like so many before, has had its ups and downs.
And through it all, we have grown.
We've grown as parents.
We've grown as disciples of Jesus Christ.
We're grown closer together as friends and prayer partners.
We've grown in patience and understanding.
We've grown in trust and faith in God.
It's been good.

Happy birthday to you, my dear!
I thank God for you and look forward to life with you as adventure awaits us!

Happy 17th Anniversary!

Happy 17th Anniversary to my love!

A Daddy's Heart

12/20/2016

I'm so thankful for this Daddy to my children.
He has a tender heart for them. He loves to come home to his family at the end of a work day. And the children love to welcome him home too.
We love you!

Happy Birthday to my Man

7/22/2015

My main squeeze just had a birthday.

He didn't want any extra attention or parties. But the kids and I did join him at work for a picnic birthday lunch.

I am beyond thankful for this man. He isn't perfect (neither is his wife) but he puts in 100% every day. He works hard at work. He works hard at being present and available at home. He undoubtedly loves me and his heart is for our family. I truly couldn't ask for a better man to walk through life with.

And he makes amazing homemade pizza to boot! :-)

What a blessed life we live!
Happy Birthday, Babe!

Daddy's Birthday

7/15/2014

Daddy has a birthday today! The big 39!

The kids and I made a poster with 39 things we love about Dad. Creating that list got us thinking about all the different things there are to love - that he takes out the trash, that he goes on bike rides with us, he takes us on vacations, he reads to us, etc.

Along with the banner, we gave him a new coffee mug filled with chocolate goodies and a birthday balloon!

We love our Daddy!

Happy birthday to you!

Father's Day

6/16/2014

Happy Father's Day to the daddy in our home!
What a great dad he is - not only providing for us, but loving on us all in such wonderful ways.

He reads lots of great books to our son at night, but also throws the football around with him when he asks.

He is helping our 10-year-old see herself as beautiful as he speaks God's truth into her life.

And our 6-month old girly loves any time she gets to snuggle with him (or grab at his glasses or drool on him).

How I thank God for my kids' daddy!

Thoughts about Lay-Offs

11/4/2013

About a month ago my husband was laid-off. You can read more about that in the blog post found here.

The last month has been stressful.

From a financial perspective, we've been alright because my husband received a severance package that covered his pay for the next few weeks.

From an insurance perspective, we've had to quickly educate ourselves on our options and make some short-term decisions to be covered.

From a home perspective, routines have been disrupted as my husband was suddenly at home more. "My time" on the computer has been much more limited as my husband has needed the computer for his job search (hence this blog has suffered from neglect... though the time away has been good for me, I think).

BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS!

Two weeks into the lay-off my husband got called in for an interview. The next day he was offered the job. He's now a cataloging librarian at our local public library. The position is for 30 hours per week but does offer benefits. It also offers many opportunities for advancement and professional development - something that was lacking at his previous employer. So we're excited and thankful for this new opportunity. And of course we're glad that it came fairly quickly into the period of unemployment.

I also should give thanks to God for the other silver linings in this lay-off. My biggest prayer requests through this period of unemployment has been for God to reign in my emotions and my tongue. I am so happy to report that He helped me greatly in that area. I was able keep a positive, supportive attitude with my husband. I was able to keep any negative thoughts from becoming words or actions that would discourage him.

My husband is naturally a hard-working, go-getter type and he brought that into the unemployment process as well. He dressed up each day and went somewhere (usually a public library) to spend some time, to look for jobs, to read up on literature in his field. He didn't allow himself to get depressed or dwell on what had happened. He moved forward in faith, believing that God had something better for him. I know that my actions and words could've poured water on that fire inside of him.

So, we are thanking God for provision, for work, for His Spirit's strength, for faith to move forward to the unknown.

The Pink Slip

10/9/2013

My husband has been laid off from his job this week. He'd been there 6 years. The company also laid off 20-some other employees, some of whom had been employed there for decades.

However, we have much to be thankful for.

1. We saw this coming a few months ago, hearing rumors that lay offs and cutbacks were on the way. So we've been looking at our budget and discussing "worst case scenarios" for a few months. This made it somewhat less stressful because we were as prepared as we could be for this happening (without knowing with any certainty IF it would really happen or not).

2. His company is providing some severance pay, pay for unused vacation time, and help with 2-months worth of health insurance. Of course all of that will help during this transition.

3. My husband is a hard-worker who is not looking for a handout. I'm so thankful for his determination and his work ethic. He desires to provide for our family, not sit around to collect unemployment on a long-term basis.

4. God knows all about this. God knew it was coming. God knows what tomorrow holds. He has good plans in store for us and we're excited to see what the next steps will be.

And so a new journey begins. If you think of us, join us in praying for God's direction and provision during this time.

Just Because We Love

8/19/2013

Just because I love my hubby, here we are together. I had my daughter grab a shot of us at church recently since we both looked good :-)

Come what may, I love you, Babe!

My Man's Birthday

7/16/2013

My man celebrated his 38th birthday recently.

I'm so thankful for this man! His life has been spared on my occasions, as God has protected him. He isn't perfect, but he's perfect for me. I love being his wife and sharing our lives together.

So again I say "Happy Birthday, Babe!"

Proud of My Man

5/21/2013

Just because I'm proud of my man...

And obtaining a Master's Degree while working full-time is no small feat.

Congratulations, again, my dear!

If you want the complete scoop, I posted about it here

End of Era of Schooling

4/24/2013

Today marks the end of an era in our schooling. Not our homeschooling, but in my husband's education. Today he turns in his very last assignment for his very last class.

Since the summer of 2008, he has been working to obtain his Master's Degree in Library Science. It's been a long trek, generally involving just one class per semester. That is the load he could handle while working full-time and managing the rest of life (home ownership, family, etc).

All but two of his classes were web-based, enabling him to participate from the internet at work or home. One class met for 5 consecutive Saturdays in Indianapolis. He tackled that one summer. Another met at a nearby college one night a week. All others were done online.

He is now on the other side of classes like Library Systems, Scholarly Communications, Grant Writing, Intellectual Freedom, Information Architecture for the Web, Cataloging, Collection Development, and Library Management.

Now we just wait for his diploma to arrive! Well, that and figure out where we will vacation in September when we plan to take a "real" vacation for the first time, spending at least a week traveling and adventuring to new and far off places.

Congratulations, my dear! You've persevered and now are at the end of the journey. Well done!

A Gold Medal for My Man

8/16/2012

You thought the Olympics were over. Think again!
My husband just won a gold medal in the all-around competition.

Employee: He's made it to the 5-year mark with his current job. He often goes in a little early or stays a little late, just to finish a task, even though it's not required. He's committed to "a job well done" and his work ethic is commendable.

Student: Last week he wrapped up his summer classes (working towards his MA in Library Science). Summer classes are tough - the equivalent of a 13-week course packed into 6 weeks of intense study. He took 2 classes this summer and did very well in both of them. Way to go!

Daddy: Despite being busy with work and school studies, this man finds time for what really matters! The kids know that when Daddy gets home, he'll have time to talk with them about their day and play with a few toys or read a few books with them. He's active and engaged as a dad.

Marriage: Speaking of what really matters, he keeps our marriage as a top priority. Emailing and calling throughout the day to stay in touch, leaving time for heart-to-heart talks in the evenings and stepping up to help lighten my load at home whenever he can earns him a 10 out of 10 in this category!

Handyman: This is an extra category thrown in simply because he wears this hat so well too. He spent a day helping clean out the basement this week. For cleaning window wells, killing spiders and moving heavy furniture, he scored highly. In addition, he recently saved the family thousands by installing new brakes and a catalytic converter on our vehicle by himself. Very, very impressive.

You have earned that gold medal, dear!
Thanks for being such a stellar guy!

Happy Birthday to My Man!

  7/16/2012

Yesterday was my husband's birthday.

I thank God for my man. I thank Him for the way He has redeemed my husband's life.

To hear stories of his childhood reminds me of the work God has done to make him into the man he is today.

He has come a long way, truly by the grace of God.

Happy Birthday, my dear.
I am blessed to walk this life with you!
